Focused language practice, not open-ended chat.
The optional Assistant turns your own learning evidence into short explanations, writing feedback, and contextual English practice.
Effective: September 15, 2026
What the feature does
You choose a focused learning task and may edit the prompt before sending it. When relevant, TENGlish Coach includes up to five learning records from your device, such as a saved expression, lesson title, check result, or note, so the response stays connected to what you studied.
Provider and regional boundary
The Global app sends an Assistant request through the CleanTENGflight Global gateway to OpenAI. It does not route a request to the separate China service or to DeepSeek. The China TENGlish app is a separate no-AI product and does not contain this Assistant surface.
Information used
Only after you tap send, the feature processes the prompt text and no more than five relevant learning records. A pseudonymous installation identifier and Apple App Attest integrity data protect the service and enforce limits. The gateway does not persist prompts or answers, and OpenAI response storage is disabled for these requests. Assistant history is stored locally on your device.
Limitations
- AI output can be incomplete or inaccurate; verify important meanings and factual claims.
- The feature is for English learning, not medical, legal, financial, safety, or other professional advice.
- Do not enter passwords, confidential information, or sensitive personal data.
- No microphone recording, speaking sample, or voice biometric is used.
Optional Library shortlisting
After you confirm the in-app disclosure, the Library can send your learning goal and up to 30 displayed English terms and meanings to OpenAI to choose a useful shortlist. Source articles, personal notes, account information and login credentials are excluded. Only supplied learning-point identifiers may be returned. This is a suggestion list, not a daily learning limit or content approval. App Attest and quota protections apply; server-side prompt/response persistence and OpenAI response storage are disabled.
Optional simple English and Chinese support
After you enable language support, a learning item you open can be sent to OpenAI through the Global gateway. The word or phrase, existing definition, context and examples are used to explain one meaning in familiar English and provide a short everyday example. Chinese remains hidden until you reveal it; revealing it can request translations of all displayed meanings, context, examples or understanding questions. Name, email, photo and personal notes are excluded. Generated assistance is labeled and cached on this device, not published as a new approved lesson. If a complete result cannot be obtained, the app reports the problem and preserves the original English. Translations and simplified explanations can be inaccurate.
Optional next-day adaptation
After a separate opt-in, the app requests a practice order when you open it on a subsequent day. Your starting point, up to 60 reviewed candidates and up to 500 outcomes from the preceding 60 completed days may be sent to OpenAI through the Global gateway. These describe opens, saves, listens, recall and understanding checks; account details and personal notes are excluded. Server rules put due review first and permit gradual increases only with repeated understanding-check evidence. Opening or saving an item is not evidence of mastery. This is practice guidance, not a certified CEFR assessment, a daily quota or a content-publication process. The complete library stays available.
Protection and choice
Language support and next-day adaptation use the same App Attest and usage protections as the Assistant. The gateway does not persist study text, study outcomes or generated assistance, and OpenAI response storage is disabled. You can turn these features off in Settings; cached explanations and translations remain available locally. You can learn, search the full Library, use American and British read-aloud, view supplied Chinese context, keep words and expressions, review your learning record and share cards without sending an AI request. Learning does not require an account. Read the Privacy Policy for the complete data-handling explanation.
